Rise of Electric Vehicles in 2023

Growing Number of Americans Embrace EVs in 2023

A survey we conducted in 2023 found a growing affinity among U.S. owners for electric vehicles.

The reason for the switch to electric vehicles (or EVs) shouldn’t come as much of a shock to commuters and frequent drivers who are used to gasoline-powered cars.

Finally, gasoline cars pose certain dangers that cannot be ignored, such as:

  • Rising gas prices
  • Offensive exhaust fumes
  • Thorough vehicle maintenance

Electric vehicles offer a new alternative. Instead of running on gasoline, electric vehicles are charged using an electric vehicle charger that can be placed at work or, more conveniently, at home.

In fact, the idea of having a convenient EV charger at home may explain our survey results.

What Our Survey Says about EVs in 2023

We recently conducted a survey of more than 2,000 U.S. adults to gauge their attitudes toward various e-services.

Specifically, the survey found that electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular among American owners. According to the results, 20% are expected to upgrade or purchase electric vehicles in 2023. Unfortunately, only 15% of all respondents said their workplace has electric vehicle charging stations.

Companies are slowly increasing the number of electric vehicle chargers available. But until such chargers become more widespread, many would prefer to take matters into their own hands and install one at home.

Around 80% of respondents do not feel comfortable installing an electric vehicle charger at home themselves – and for good reason. Electric cars have not been around long and many consumers are not familiar with the intricacies of installing a single charging station.

Additionally, many people are hesitant to take on electrical projects. And installing an electric vehicle charging station comes with the responsibility of evaluating the entire electrical system to ensure proper installation.

Your local electrician at McBride Lighting & Electrical can simplify this process by providing a safe and efficient installation of an electric vehicle charger for your home.

How to Prepare Your Home for an EV

Before you save by purchasing an electric vehicle, follow these tips to prepare your home:

  • Know your panel: Some older panels require an upgrade to support your EV charger. A licensed electrician can assess the need for a new panel and upgrade it if necessary.
  • Hire an electrician to install a separate circuit for your charger: You should install a separate circuit for your electric vehicle charger to avoid the risk of fire.
  • Learn about the different types of EV chargers: There are literally different levels of charging for your EV. Electric vehicle chargers come in levels 1 and 2. Which type you choose depends largely on how often and how far you travel.
  • Clean Out Your Garage: The last thing you need is for your new vehicle to be surrounded by clutter and chaos. The saying “out with the old, in with the new” really applies here!

Other Ways You Can Amp Up Your Home in 2023

In addition to carefully preparing to install your home electric car charger, our survey identified four other ways to ensure you adopt safe, energy-saving habits to save time, risk and cost.

1. Invest in whole-home protection

In the survey, only 13% of respondents had comprehensive protection for their home.

Did you know that without complete protection of your home, a power surge can potentially destroy everything plugged into your home’s electrical outlets? Whole Home Protection protects your expensive and trendy appliances and appliances. Purchasing a surge protector for the power strip is not always enough. You could save yourself thousands of dollars and headaches by scheduling an appointment online with a licensed electrician in Denver, CO to protect your entire home.

2. Upgrade your switchboards

In our survey, 44% of respondents said improved energy efficiency and cost savings were the most attractive benefits of upgraded distribution boards.

Modernization will save you money in the long term by reducing energy costs. In addition, the improved and more efficient panels also ensure more security in your home.

3. Get a backup generator

Only 23% of U.S. homeowners surveyed reported having a backup generator.

Backup generators ensure safety and comfort in the event of a power outage. Nevertheless, we found that 77% of respondents did not own their own device and therefore left behind non-functional devices and devices in the event of a power outage.

4. Install a carbon monoxide detector

Fortunately, 80% of respondents agreed on the importance of carbon monoxide detectors in homes.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be fatal. Installing a carbon monoxide detector is the safest way to ensure you and your family are not at risk.
